Adding a node is erratic with NPM 11.5.2 and upgrade to 11.5.3 didn't fix issue

We are currently running NPM 11.5.3, NCM 7.4.1, and SAM 6.2.3.

Adding a node is erratic.

I have a support case open, but it has been hard to reach support.

Support suggested that we upgrade to the latest versions, which was done. But we have the same problem.

When trying to add a node I have had the following problems;

I get a javascript error sometimes

The system hangs when trying to Choose resources sometimes

I get website error sometimes

and sometimes it works

Has anyone else see these types of errors and what has resolved the issue?

No, but this was the second time I changed a worker process setting. The first was in the Default Application Pool, it was set to 2 and I lowered it to 1. The second time was in the SolarWinds Orion Application…

I was seeing something similar before upgrading. In my case the node would test okay, list resources and in the screen after or the next it would kick me back to the start of the add a node wizard. Then in January I upgraded a everything and I'm currently running SAM 6.2.1 (6.2.2395.1), NPM 11.5.2 HF4 (11.5.25304.0), NetFlow 4.1 (4.1.9324) and Orion Service 2015.1.2 HF6 (115.1.8343.25300) without that issue. My Backend servers are Windows Server 2012 R2 fully patched.
I use Chrome as my Browser with Solarwinds.

Have you tried it with other browsers? With what you described I'd definitely give that a go...

I had something like this happening in July. I couldn't list resources on either new or current nodes. I applied Orion Platform v2015.1.2 – HotFix2 and the problem went away for me.

This was the solution to this problem.
The dev team got back with us this morning. They believe the issue is that the website is using two worker processes, the software uses in-process session store so the worker processes don't share the information between them causing the issue.

So what we need to do is set the application pool for the website to use only 1 worker instead.

This can be done by:

1.) Go to IIS Manager on your server(not version 6.0)
2.) Expand out your server
3.) Click on Application Pools
4.) Right Click on the "SolarWinds Orion Application Pool" and go to Advanced Settings
5.) In the section called "Process Model" you'll see an option for Maximum Worker Process. Set that value to 1 and hit ok.
6.) Now open up Command Prompt and type in "iisreset"

After it resets open up task manager and look for the process w3wp.exe, what we are expecting to see is only ONE of these processes running. If there is only one process go back into the website and try a list resources again on any device
