I would like to look at All Managed Devices and see what Group each device is in.

I can go to a group and see hundreds of devices.  And I can go into an Alert List and see tons.  However, without some manual work outside of ipMon, I don't know how to verify that all my remote gear has been Moved into an appropriate group.

I would like to be able to go to "All Managed Devices" and Add Column that shows what group(s) each device is in.

Maybe something like this currently exists.  If so, great.  If not, and if anyone else sees the value of this, maybe we can get this added as a feature request.

  • Hello Bob_Lutz,

The Device does not know what Group it is a member of.  The Group knows what Devices it contains.  As such, listing the Group(s) for each Device is nearly impossible.

Perhaps a better way to achieve what is needed is to create a SmartGroup listing all Devices that are not members of any Groups.  Here's how:

    1. Go to "Devices" tab

    2. Click "Add -> Add New SmartGroup".

    3. Configure as follows:

    -SmartGroup contains "Devices"

    -Start with "All Devices"

-Remove Devices where "Group" is "Group A"

***Where Group A is one of your groups.

    4. Add Similar filter for every Group you have.

    5. Click OK.

At this point you should have a SmartGroup that contains Devices which do not belong to any of the Groups you have added a filter for.

Let me know if this helps.

  • That worked (90%).

I think I followed the instructions correctly.  I now have an Orphans group with some switches, etc, that we set up some time ago as noobs.  So that gives me a list of what needs to be cleaned up.  Thanks!

The only gotcha is, I have this nice list of devices, and I would like to check the box and Move them to the appropriate group, but the Move button is grayed out.

If that is more "user error" I apologize.  As it is, I still need to do (less) manual edits, copying into note pad, and going back to All Devices with the list.
