Everything's not completely migrated from 8.5 to 9.05

Hi,

Currently I'm on migrating process from 8.5. to 9.05. Migrating method was based on Knowledge Base (support.solarwinds.com/.../ProblemDetail.cfm

Everything's ok until step 11. But then, after I rearrange whatever configuration related with devices/groups on 9.05 installation, I realize that not all monitors from 8.5 completely migrated. Because I found some devices/groups on 9.05 have less amount of monitors than 8.5. I have trying to search these missing monitors on the orphaned objects but it was no result.

What should I do now to match the amount of monitors with 8.5 installation ? I'm afraid if I have to repeat the process on the Knowledge Base above, then all groups/devices and their contents configuration I have created on 9.05 will be overwritten.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Fauzan,

Instead of comparing monitor counts based on status and directories, I would like to compare the licensing information between the 2 installations.  Here's what I need you to do:

    1. Login to your ipMonitor 8 installation.
    2. Click the Dashboard icon.
    3. Click the "System" tab
    4. What does it says for "License" within the "Monitoring Services Information" section?
    5. Login to your ipMonitor 9 installation.
    6. Click the "About" link.
    7. What does it say for "Policy ID"?

    Let me know.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Chris,

Thank you before for your attention.

On the 8.5 installation, it says "5000 Monitors (4981 Added)".

On the 9.05 installation, it says "5000 / 5000 Monitors".

    What does it mean ?

On the 9.05 installation I also have tried to search these missing monitors using their unique identity. I prefer to search them using their IP address than their name. Because in our implementation, some monitors name don't have unique name policies except their IP address which pointing to their Group and Group name. But the result still can't find the monitors which IP address I've searched.

I also have tried to restart ipMonitor service on 9.05 server. I hope after restarting process it will automatically find unupgraded monitors. But I wasn't.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Chris,

I have additional information for you. This days I also tried to search these missing monitors using monitor ID.

First I try this for the monitor which was completed upgrade from 8.5 to 9.05. I pick a monitor and look at its ID on 8.5. Then on the 9.05 dashboard I search this monitor ID. And it was successful find the same monitors.

Then I try this method for the monitor which I can't find in 9.05. I look at this missing monitor ID on 8.5. Then I use this ID to search the monitor on 9.05. And as I guess, the search process can't find the monitor.

I hope it will be useful information for you to analyze what was happened. Honestly, I have been thinking to repeat the upgrading process. But I'm afraid that all Group/Sub Groups structure I was created on 9.05 will be overwritten. And maybe the license have to re-extend too.

    Thank you in advance.
