WHD and a very secure O365.

Our campus enabled Modern Authentication and some higher levels of security when accessing Office 365 mail accounts. The OAuth2 version of Exchange Web Services (which allows for Modern Authentication) is called Outlook mail API in Microsoft Graph v1.0. IMAP and POP3 are blocked and I can't get WHD to authenticate at all anymore. Has anyone gotten WHD to work with this level of security? Moving from 12.5 to 12.6 did not matter.

Should your connection method to the Mailbox be Exchange/Office365 rather than IMAP or POP3 ?

Yes, I should have been more clear. POP3 and IMAP are blocked so we have to use Exchange/Office 365. That is when we are getting an authorization error due to the security. It (our mail server) also only works with Outlook 2016 and the most recent version of Mail for Mac. It does not surprise me that WHD is having issues. Our current workaround is forwarding mail to a different email system and then having WHD check that. Not ideal, but working.

When you say Modern Authentication do you mean they require MFA? If so, you will need to have MFA disabled for this the account. I would submit a feature request for this though, I would vote for it!

Based on these articles, it looks like you can remove the modern authentication policy from specific accounts or groups. I would talk to the Exchange team to see if they can set up an exception for a service account.

We had to put in an exception to our campus IT to allow us to use basic auth. It would be great if WHD didn't need this.

Is this the error you were getting? "Error processing mailbox messages: The remote server returned an error: (401)Unauthorized" We are getting this error and I'm trying to resolve it.

I'm so happy for your post. We put our two WHD processing emails into an exception to use basic authentication and now everything is working again!

Based on this article. Basic Auth is being disabled as of Oct 2020.
I wonder if anyone from SolarWindws wants to chime in on their plans to support Modern Auth in WHD before then!
Note: SMTP basic auth will still be available (for now)
