Server 'Wake Up' Functionality

Hello, we are implementing a new document management system and have been getting user complaints that the system is slow first thing in the morning.  We need to put something in place to 'wake up' the processes first thing in the morning so the first user(s) won't have to wait so long.

We were wondering if Solar Winds could accommodate that with a (regularly scheduled) series of parallel connections.  Has anyone heard of this being done?

Any insight would be a great help...tks.

Laura..

  • What kind of connections does this application require to "wake up"? If it's a web based application that runs on IIS then it's likely the worker processes are going to sleep and the web cache is expiring. A Web Performance Monitor transaction would ensure that doesn't occur.

  • Hello aLTeReGo,

Thank you for your response. The app does run on IIS. After we do backups

and re-boot the servers, the processes need to be called before the users

get in, otherwise, they have to wait through the initialization. What we

could do is set up 20 parallel processes to run in the early AM. It'll

wake up all 20 threads. I figure we could monitor the server response for

about three hours in the early morning.

Cheers, and thank you again for your insight. I'll let you know how we

    fare.
