Upgrade Info 7.1 to Current

Question

I've been tasked with updating our SolarWinds environment for the first time so forgive my lack of knowledge. We currently have the Vman appliance on version 7.1 and a windows app server running Orion 2017.3 and SAM 6.4.  From what I've read we need to retire the appliance and integrate the polling into Orion. I would like to get all versions to the latest release but am getting a bit confused with the proper order to do this in. Are there any special considerations or steps I need to take to get vman moved over and SAM updated on to our Orion server?

Upgrade of SAM and VIM is pretty straightforward. A little bit tricky is, that you probably need to get VMAN appliance to version at least 8, and then you could use migration wizard in Settings / Virtualization settings -> after migration all your data sources from VMAN appliance are migrated and polled by VMAN Orion. So you can turn off VMAN appliance. Don't forget that you need VMAN primary license in Orion, not in appliance.
