Facing strange issues for ESX monitoring

Hi All,

We have 50+ ESX hosts which are being monitored from Solarwinds. From few weeks we are having very strange behavior. Since Vcenter is not allowed to be polled we are directly polling the hosts with root credentials..

Now whats happening is that, some of the hosts are going into 'could not poll state' and when we check the root credentials, it says it cannot login.. So we went to our technical team and found that there were many failed attempt logins showing from Solarwinds server IP address which in turn is causing 'remote locked out' situation for the root account and even they cannot login until 900 seconds.

So we disabled the polling for sometime and the error on Vcenter for hosts having issues did go away and they were able to take putty session. Then we tried the same credentials in Solarwinds, and we couldnt believe, it authenticated fine! This has happened almost 3-4 times in a span of 2 months...

Any clue what could be the reason here, not directly related this to Solarwinds being the issue but if anyone has come across any such scenarios and how it was resolved, it would help.

We are observing this after the hosts were upgraded to 6.7 and passwords were changed for them. Note that new passwords are already in place in Solarwinds.
