Aggregate group of VM stats

Hello,

I wanted to get some feedback on VMAN 6.1.1.130 and how I can aggregate the stats for a list of VMs that represent an application. Looking through the admin guide, there is supposed to be a "add to app" option which I think would solve my problem. However, I am not seeing that option and I can only add them to a list, chart, etc. I need to be able to compare the utilization of different group of VMs so aggregating their stats would provide a nice comparison.

Any thoughts on how this can be accomplished?

Hi,
the "Add to App" option is in Search or List module:
Then you can add VMs to vApps in App Builder:
It's also possible to:
1) create Labels to aggregate VMs, Hosts, ... (more info at http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/vman/default.htm#svmag_customlabels.htm)
2) add the VMs under vApp directly in vSphere

Once you have the vApp created, you will probably need to create a Trend to generate aggregate stats (sum, average, min, max, count)

Hi MIlan,
That is exactly what I would like to do but I am not getting the 'add to app' option when selecting the VMs. Do I need to create a vApp in vCenter for that feature work?

It's not necessary to do anything in vCenter. The "Add to App" button should be available in any case. I'd suggest that you contact SolarWinds Support, send them logs and they will help you.
You can also create vApp in vCenter or assign labels to VMs (as mentioned earlier) to be able to aggregate statistics. And then, as HolyGuacamole wrote, you can create Trends with various aggregations.

Can you elaborate on the use case you are trying to solve? The "add to app" is potentially only one solution to what you need depending on the particular problem you're having.

I would like to aggregate stats from each group of VM and basically have them represented by a single object or application.
For example:
Application 1 consist of VM1, VM2 and VM3.
Application 2 consist of VM4, VM5 and VM6.
I would like to generate a graph/report that would let me compare the aggregate stats on a per Application basis.

At the risk of being annoying, why is it important to compare aggregated statistics across applications? Are these two similar applications and one is behaving badly?

Hello, just a question: are you logged in VMAN as a user or an admin account? The user accounts don't have rights to create manual vApp.

I've confirmed that I do have admin rights but still not getting that options. Is the "add to app" option dependent on anything? meaning do I need to have a vAPP defined in vCenter in order to create on in SW.
I apologize if I may have already asked the same questions again.
