Are you looking to monitor Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Orion? We want to talk to you!

The SAM 6.4 release candidate includes the new feature for AWS monitoring, more details here: Get Your Head Out of the Clouds, and Your Data Too If you want to take this new feature for a test drive, please email me IMMEDIATELY at kristin.bongiovanni@solarwinds.com

There will be thwack points...and more, just saying!

  • If we monitor instances as a Node, does it lower the number of cloudwatch api call for that node? We have added aws account in solarwinds but every month we are way passed 1 million free request limit. So just wanted to find a way to lower these api calls. Thanks for you help!

  • Adding the cloud server as a node doesn't reduce the polling.  It just collects additional information as a node.

If you're getting too many polling requests, you can reduce the frequency of CloudWatch polling by editing your cloud account and scrolling down to the CloudWatch Instance Polling Frequency field.

The default is 5 minutes.  You might try 7 minutes if you're just barely going over.

  • I am in the same boat as you, I am just about to start monitoring AWS via API and Orion.  I read somewhere that it only cost $3.50 for a million API requests.  What kind of charges were you getting ?
