UDT feature request to have SFP modules inventory with there operational status.

UDT feature request to have SFP modules inventory with there operational status.

Hi

Recently I was exploring UDT features on Solarwinds demo website.

I was thinking that it will be great to also have a feature in UDT where we can also get inventory of connected SFP modules in network devices with there operational status.

This feature will be of great help into identifying SFP  modules which are connected in network devices but not in use and can be able to utilize in new network implementation. As SFP modules are too costly.

A must have feature. I think SFP information should be a mandatory part of a switch port mapping solution.

Additional info like Port status - Up, down, Admin shutdown in the reports.

I agree with your thought that this could be a useful Feature Request.  But UDT is for User Device Tracking, not inventorying, so UDT may not be the best place for the request.

Instead, could you consider using NPM for this instead of UDT?   NPM monitors the status all interfaces.  You might already have the functionality you want for this from NPM.

You should be able to create an Interface Inventory Report showing all SFP hardware, and NPM will show you the status of all SFP's if you've choosen to monitor them.

Agree with you @rschroeder

Maybe the feature request should be a part of the discovery process itself. We have checked on NPM - but we do not get the SFP details via NPM. Not sure, if the vendors have a SFP MIB OID to read from.
