I opened this case with Support:
1353907 - HOW CAN I GENERATE A UDT REPORT FOR MULTIPLE IP SOURCE ADDRESSES?
Solarwinds Support kindly told me there's currently no way to do what I asked: I'd like to discover everything UDT knows about a list of 1000 IP addresses (or FQDN's, or MAC addresses) and present it in a pretty report.
As a kluge, I used SDK to discover the 120,000 entries in my UDT Solarwinds Orion SQL database, but cross-referencing and searching and filtering for a thousand addresses, and then outputting it into something you'd be proud to show your IT Director . . . not so much.
I'm accustomed to all wonderful canned reports in NPM. Please work on generating that kind of depth and customizability with UDT.
Some wonderful things I expected to be able to see with UDT (in bulk) and can't:
- A de-duplicated report showing every NPM node and UDT-discovered device, with columns for connected switch port, FQDN, IP address, MAC address, last logged-in users, and more
- The ability to take a .CSV file of IP addresses, MAC addresses, or FQDN's, then use it as a filter to generate a UDT report for only those devices
- Correlating Cisco vulnerabilities for nodes with UDT-discovered devices. Imagine having to notify users their Access Point(s) will be down for maintenance, and needing to be very granular about it (as in a hospital setting). Wouldn't you want the users' login names, the AP's information, the users' device names & MAC addresses, etc. for that notification?
- How about a complete Inventory report, using UDT-discovered info?
- How about combining the above Inventory Report with all the Node information in NPM?
Go wild with reporting--UDT is a very special and useful product, but until its ancillary features (like reports) are made more complete and robust, it's only a onesie-twosie solution. Build that better mousetrap so the world beats a path to the Solarwinds door, because you can't rest solely on the laurels of NPM and NCM. UDT will bring in more customers!
