Linux SNMP state - Unknown ( alert settings )

Hi ,

I have a alerting condition set if a Linux system SNMPD service goes to Unknown state. Current threshold is around 10 minutes if a linux server snmp goes to Unknown state.

We have around 240 linux servers in Solarwinds. But while i tried to use the condition it only shows that I have 127 nodes..

1. Is there any best practice to set a alert condition (Polling interval, threshold ) for linux server if SNMPD service goes to Unknown state

2. I am curios why it shows only 127 nodes while trying to configure a alert condition..

Any suggestions would be a great help...

Please share the screen shot of triggering condition, it will help to understand the exact requirement.

maybe not all of them are snmp enabled and you are using the linux agent instead?

Please find the screenshot.
It only shows 127 objects but we do have around 240 Linux machines,

We dont have linux agent method done for any linux servers
We only use the SNMP based..

Notice you have application selected, so you could have 240 nodes with 127 applications on them. I would make sure that all of the nodes have application monitors assigned to them.

Hi Vijay,
from the screenshot it looks like you have (application instance = SNMPD service) template deployed only on 127 Linux servers.
that's why its showing 127 only.
Now the question is how you can verify the same that, on how many Linux server this application is deployed ?
There are altogether different ways to do that, but you can use the blow:-
you can verify the same just by make changes in existing alert or create new test alert using below triggering condition.

> Put the application name in highlighted area lets say application name is (SNMPD service).
> Then click on (Show List) this will give you the list of server where application is deployed.
once you get the list you can easily verify with total 240 Linux servers.
