ESXi VM agent vs SNMP Polling

Hello,

When adding VMs, what is the recommended method for polling? There are a few choices, but the most appropriate seem to be, ICMP, SNMP and ICMP, and Windows/linux servers and also should poll for vmware be checked since those are VMs in vCenter?

Installing the agent vs enabling SNMP? Differences or what do you get by doing one vs the other?
