Amazon AWS Monitoring

Amazon AWS Monitoring

With the adoption of cloud computing on the rise, it's high time that SAM expand its monitoring capabilities to natively support monitoring services such as AWS natively and agentlessly via the Cloudwatch API. These services must be monitored no differently than their on-prem equivalents; allowing users to report and alert upon performance, health, and availability issues occurring and impacting critical application running in the cloud.

This would be a fantastic idea! We are full steam ahead moving into AWS here.

Maybe locating a poll engine that in the cloud that sends data back to the Orion db in an encrypted channel, for security.

I spoken with users that have successfully deployed npm in the AWS environment.  They also placed the separate Orion database in the cloud.  These both have to be in the same IP range available as an option with AWS.  They monitored their environment via a persistant encrypted channel.

Our company is moving totally into AWS and will not have any on-prem datacenter servers.  I would also like to see more integration with AWS, but want to point out that we have had a tendency to move servers around.  To do this, you clone the server to an AMI and redeploy it.  Once done, the server will have a new instance-id.  In this case, the SNMP and APM data would continue (once the IP was updated in Orion), but CloudWatch data would be different.  Although, we need to go and update the IP info in NPM (at least we do) and at the same time can update the instance-id, it would be great if the NPM is able to match the instance-id on it's own.

This would be a fantastic idea!!!

This is also something we are looking for and will most likely be the deciding factor on whether we purchase SAM or not.  Datadawg is already doing this.

We've provided this for some time. I'm curious what your decision ended up being after you saw the feature?

We purchased a full license for SAM and use it to monitor both on prem and AWS now. It is still a work in progress for the Applications, but we are working through it.
