I tested the Serv-U MFT 15.0 for our company. This would be a necessary feature for us to buy this solution. Pleas integrate it by AD group membership.
We are looking to use this system for file transfers with external parties and in most cases we really don't want the file sharing option available. If they enter an invalid SMTP address (anything that is not one of our internal SMTP domain names) our Exchange server won't allow this through - but in this case we're going to end up with junk emails in our system.
LDAP access lets me allow HTTP or not & allow FTP or not - but agree with netmin that much finer control of options is required, at least so that we could have one LDAP group that grants access only to file sharing & another only the web client.
Essentially, file sharing should only be an option for my internal staff to use for adhoc send or recieve operations, where the web client would be useful for a group of people to be able to collaborate.
I have implemented this by running a separate site just for file sharing and then using LDAP authentication back to AD for the users so I can restrict by group. This works for me but means that from a user's persective it's a completely different "system"
We have been running Serv-U for over 7 years and we have had our fair share of trials through the years, version 12 was particularly memorable for all the wrong reasons. I feel it's a major oversight to not have the ability to disable the new file sharing feature at the group or user level. I went ahead and logged a case number # 540129.
