Improve the graphs in Storage Manager

The performance graphs looks pretty much awful. A more dynamic and interactive graphing tool set would be very valuable. Virtualization Manager has much nicer graphs and it seems like it should be fairly easy to apply that to Storage Manager. Also, we should be able to create graphs with custom date ranges for troubleshooting performance issues.

  • It would also sure be nice to be able to set a max threshold line (like when alerts go off), so that you can show when an alert went out and why.  And as long as we're brainstorming here, how about being able to set a line for max theoretical IOPs for specific LUN's(depending on the # of drives)?.  My users don't understand/don't want to understand IOP's and being able to show them on a graph is the only way to convince them there's a problem.

  • Hello, like KarimK already said, the y-axis scaling on the graphs should be adjustable, like a kind of logarithic y-axis.

For example when LUNs have 1 huge peak at a certain moment, the whole graph is unusable as all values look like 0 and only the peak is visible on the graph !

  • I would like to see composite views for items such as LUNs. For example, a graph that simultaneously displays several metrics (customizable) for a single chosen LUN. For example (at the same time on the one graph): IOPS, read/write%, latency, and read cache hit%.

(Note, this is for reports and graphs, such as when looking at performance for a device, NOT the flash-based LUN view which is still a collection of multiple graphs instead of a single composite graph).

  • - One handy feature would be a button on the graph screen to toggle the vertical axis betwwen the default scale you show and another starting at 0.  A lot of graph screens show a deceptive picture of the scale of change because the scale is effectively zoomed in to the top of the chart.

    - Another would be like in Virtualisation manager to be able to specifically choose which data sources are graphed.  eg instead of the "top 5" luns or "next 5 etc" being able to choose 5 (or more or less) specific luns I want to show statistics for simultaneously.

    - As above, being able to choose specific date ranges, not just "6 hours, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days" etc.

    - Hover over pop ups for the mouse cursor on specific data points.  Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between "green line with round dots" and "green line with triagles", especially when the lines cross and merge a lot.

    - Better scaling, being able to resize the graph window and the graph scales change to use the bigger window.  Make it a lot easier to show detail when data points are too close together.

  • Can you be more specific on the features you would like to see in the charting in Storage Manager?
