FEATURE REQUSET: Prevent USB Defender from writing to Application log

Case number 295288

The USB Defender feature of the TriGeo agent logs all USB-based file access to the Windows Application log. Some organizations may consider this information (device types, file paths, file names) to be sensitive in nature.

By default the Windows Application log is accessible to all domain (or local) users. Rather than locking down access to this log (which typically does not contain sensitive data), it would be appreciated if this behaviour could be changed so that the USB Defender feature logs this data to a more secure area.

Thanks for the request.
With newer Windows versions, you can now create targeted event logs. Would you rather see it in the Security Log, one of these targeted logs, or logged somewhere in a flat file so you can protect the directory?

Sorry, I'm not sure what is meant by a "targeted log", but I think we would prefer to see these logs go to the Security Log, as it is already protected by default.

Sounds good.
With Windows Vista, 7, 2008 and upcoming 8, applications can create specific event logs where only their events are stored. I think the Security Log may still be the best choice, since it's limited to admins - the other logs might have customizable permissions, but I think by default are open.
