Monitor clustered SQL instances with AppInsight for SQL and the agent

Hi Everyone,

I'd really love to have the ability to monitor clustered SQL instances using the agent. I'm running a MSP business and I'm using SAM to monitor various customer environments with the agent. The ability to monitor SQL clustered instances with the agent would be a welcomed addition for this kind of scenario.

Thanks!

We have several remote SQL clusters or SQL running with availability groups. We cannot (due to our specific requirements) spin up a VPN tunnel to poll these remotely. Utilizing the agent is the only way we will be able to monitor these. It would be great if we could utilize the agent to perform this monitoring using the AppInsight template for SQL.

Thanks for this additional level of detail!

  • This is more important now that it was a few years go, with the new agent network activity/dependencies.

For a cluster now you need both agents and WMI (/SNMP) so you end up with - using a SQL cluster as an example:

server nodes with the network activity info for the SQL Servers that happen to be running on it.

the cluster instance with nothing but a message saying you should use an agent.
