Discovery Profiles

Managing and maintaining Orion in a large environment is a tedious, time consuming process. As new systems are brought online it is an additional manual process to ensure these systems are monitored by Orion. Systems fall through the cracks and never end up being monitored until a major issue or outage leaves people scrambling to figure out why these servers or applications weren't being monitored.

Discovery profiles allow users the ability to configure the system to self-maintain itself through regularly recurring discovery. As new systems are identified that meet the users pre-defined criteria (OS, vendor type, subnet, application, etc.) the user is allowed to pre-determine what characteristics of the discovered system should be monitored (CPU, Memory, fixed disks, types of interfaces, hardware health, etc.). These systems are then automatically managed/monitored by Orion when discovered and any criteria specified in the discovery profile are monitored on that system. This provides the ability to "set it and forget it" for self maintaining monitoring.
