Windows Scheduled task status being misreported

Jump to solution

Hi there,

I have a Windows scheduled task that appears to be executing properly, but is daily throwing an error in Solarwinds. I have included some screenshots. Any thoughts as to why it's not evaluating the Windows Event Logs properly? According to Windows, this event completed successfully. Environment - Windows 2012 R2. SAM 6.7.1, NPM 12.4, Orion 2018.4 HF1. It would be really great if no responses said "try upgrading". This has been going on for 2 years, which encompasses  multiple Solarwinds platforms/versions.

Here are the Windows Event Log entries:

2. Action started

3. Action Complete

4. Task Complete

Found several threads on technet relating to similar situations. Looks like a scheduled task claiming it succeeded is not entirely accurate in certain cases.

Probably need to do some logging on the actual task to pin down what it's complaining about.

Not really a SW issue, that's why no amount of upgrading is going to solve it, gotta fix the task itself.

I agree with mesverrum the cmd.exe is not completing successfully event thought the scheduled task completes. The exit code of 2147942401 is an illegal operation.

Tomiannelli, Thx for the specific cmd.exe result. I did see that. However, when you look at the out of the box alert for SW, the AND operation that must be satisfied is that the last result (which is not the cmd.exe) must not be illegal operation. Thoughts?
