What are risks in applying SQL APM Template

I am from Networking group and managing the Solarwinds NPM. We have recently installed the SAM (APM) and decided to monitor the application performances as well.

We want to use the template SQL server 2005-2008 performance (SQL) for one of the database server, But the application supports groups raised a below concern:-

"what is the payload for this type of monitoring of the SQL DB’s?  The app teams have expressed some concern on the amount of cycles the monitoring will consume – especially for their high transaction based databases"

Can someone please help me on the above question.

Thanks

  • Virtually none. You can export the template from the 'manage templates' setting area and give it to them. They can see the list of SQL queries that is in the template - it's sort of an XML format but search for "SELECT" in any text editor to see the queries. The online SAM admin guide also has detailed descriptions about each component. That should put them at ease
