SAM Credentials to Access Active Directory Nodes Failing

Hello All,

I am setting up Server and Application Manager to monitor applications such as Exchange, Active Directory, SQL, etc. So far I haven't had any trouble with Exchange or SQL but I am having issues scanning our DC servers for 2008 R2 - 2012 Active Directory counters. Each time I scan is it saying i am providing the wrong credentials. I have tried using the domain\administrator account, the local administrator account, and a domain administrator account and all have failed with "Wrong Credentials". I can scan the Windows Server 2003 -2012 counters just fine. Is there something I am missing? I am currently running Server 2008 R2 DCs.

How are the nodes managed in Orion? Are they SNMP or WMI nodes? If they are WMI managed nodes and are working, you should be able to just inherit the node credentials for monitoring the application.

These are SNMP nodes in Orion.

Is the server being monitored in the same domain as the Orion server? Can you map a drive from the Orion server to that Domain Controllers administrative share "C$" using the credentials you provided above?

I would suggest looking at the Event Log on that domain controller immediately after trying those credentials in SAM to see if there are an Windows Event Log Messages that might explain the denial. The error you are receiving back is fairly generic and can be applicable to both a bad username/password, or insufficient privileges.It may be that your DCOM permissions, or some other group policy setting is preventing some component within the template from being applied. We may be able to narrow down the the cause if you manually assigned the template to the node. This will allow you to see which component(s) in the template are failing. If they are Performance Counters or Windows Service Monitors, etc.

Could I change the Orion node from SNMP to WMI. Do you think that would take care of the issue?
