Monitor NTP server

No. I haven't done that before. I'll take a look.

Where do you browse/download templates from?

In Orion, you will go to Settings\SAM Settings\Manage Templates, and click the Shared Templates on Thwack tab. 

I was able to get the NTP Server imported, but it requires the node be monitored with SNMP. Not sure how that would be possible unless the external NTP server was giving out SNMP credentials, it seems to be better suited for monitoring your own NTP Servers and not externally used one(s). Unless I'm doing something wrong, which is very possible.

I had the same issue on my end, just figured out how to address it.

I ended up using the NTP User Experience Monitor  template and modifying it just a bit. By usign the ${IP} variable as script argument (instead of the NTP server), and assigning a credential known by my poller, and making sure the execution mode was "Local", I was able to get the NTP response validation from the poller to my different NTP servers in my network, even if the node is monitored via ICMP only.

Awesome! That appears to have worked for me, all I had to do was adjust to ${IP} in the Script Argument. I validated against a node that I expected to fail against too, just to be sure it would pick up on that and it looks like it did the trick, I'm monitoring against external time services now as well that we use but don't have control over, but are interested in knowing availability on.

Glad I published this    I've used it a handful of times since I originally wrote it as well.   Plus it's always fun to leverage a SAM template against a Cisco router

I'm not too familiar with Powershell, and how this monitor works, however, i have some Cisco routers that respond to this template, and others that do not. Can someone explain how this script "works"? Where is the query sourced from? Considering only half of my routers and switches respond, i'm guessing there's a firewall rule in place or something like that preventing it from working, but i'm not sure what to look for, since i don't "get" what this script really does, just that the results verify if an NTP response is heard... i think.
