Help with monitoring Zombie processes on Unix OS

The "Linux Memory Monitoring Perl" template included in APM 4.0.2 and later includes a component monitor that returns the number of zombie processes.

Have you used this template and received correct results?

I looked up the template and as you stated its for LINUX and we need it for AIX/UNIX.  To get it to work for AIX/UNIX I had one of our guys look at the script and we had to make a minor change.  We removed cmd and replaced it with comm.  See below.

$stat=`ps -A -ostat,ppid,pid,comm | grep -e '^[Zz]' | wc -l`;
$exit=`echo $?`;
if ( $exit == 0 ) {
        print "Message: Zombie processes: $stat\n";
        print "Statistic: $stat\n";
        exit 0;
        }
print "Message: ERROR: Can't find zombie processes. Check the syntax of command (ps) in script. \n";
exit 1;

I'm glad you were able to get it sorted out. Just to let you know we do have a UNIX application template that's similar to the Linux one specifically for AIX and Solaris. It too includes zombie process monitoring. It's called "Unix Memory Monitoring Perl" and is included in APM 4.2. More information on this template can be found at this link below.
