Determine Group Membership From Node Page

Jump to solution

Hi All,

This is possibly an easy one, but I can's seems to find a way to display information on a node page about which group this particular node belongs to. I have a lot of groups for different purpose. Many are used for my dashboard. When node is down - I just want to see which groups are affected. I can probably achieve it with reports, but I would like this to be available straight on the node page. Something like:

"This node is a member of the following groups:"

Group01

Group02

etc.

Thanks,

Alex

You'll need to download the attached report and copy it to the Orion server in the Report Directory. Normally located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\orion\Reports". Next, add a new "Report from Orion Report Writer" resource to the "Node Details" view.

Add a Report Resource.png

Lastly, edit the newly added resource and select the "Group Membership" report.

There's no out-of-the-box resource that appears on the Node Details view that will show you which groups the node is a member of, but I was able to do this easily enough using the Report Writer, as shown below.

Wow, this is exactly what I need, thank you. Would you be able to give a bit more details on how to set this up?

Hi aLTeReGo,

can you please update this answer so that it is applicable to Orion 2018.2.

I can't manage to apply your walk-through to my environment.

Thank you in advance.

Hi plasibo you could achieve the same result with a Custom Query like so:

SELECT cm.Container.Name AS [Group_Name]

,cm.Container.DetailsUrl AS [_LinkFor_Group_Name]

FROM Orion.ContainerMembers cm WHERE cm.FullName = '${Caption}'

If you add that into your Node Details page you should get the same result.

Stealing this...

The steps outlined above are the same for Orion Platform 2018.2 as they were for earlier versions. The only real change is the step to add this as a resource to a page looks different.

Thank you so much! Works as a charm
