Appinsight for Windows Server and a Similar Linux OS Monitor

Are there any Thwack templates that monitor critical Windows server functions availability?  Something similar to Appinsight for SQL but for Windows Server 2008 and 2012.

I'm sure we could pick a few services to monitor but I'm wondering if anyone has a pre-made template.  I don't like re-inventing the wheel ...

Or maybe there's a SolarWinds product for this?

We're also looking for a similar product or template for Linux, also for monitoring NFS volumes being mounted or testing ssh availability.

In specific we've noticed instances where a server has hung.  Due to RDP issues or in a frozen shut down state.  Often our basic SolarWinds node/app monitors don't indicate an issue, other than some might be in an unknown status.

We go through the same thing - servers are up and accessible ICMP but RDP is not available. Happens during patch weekend every month.

What the world needs is an RDP synthetic login check, rather than a port check for 3389.

This is actually theoretically possible using WPM and a web based (java) RDP session similar to what's discussed below for Citrix XenApp.
