I get this in the Solarwinds.net Eventlog:
Source: SolarWinds.APM.Busines
A license check failed. License does not match install type.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Could thuis be a licensing issue? I Downloaded APM 2.0 from the customer portal.

Are your running your server in Terminal Server mode or "Remote Desktop for Administration" mode? If you will go to Start | Administrative Tools | Terminal Services Configuration, select Server Settings and look for the Licensing setting. It probably says "Remote Dekstop for Administration". In this case, you won't need to run the installer via Add/Remove Programs.
JB, I think you just had a licensing issue. When you uninstalled and then reinstalled, you fixed the problem (one file didn't get replaced so your server didn't see a 2.0 license).
For anyone else reading this thread...
If you look in the SolarWinds Event Log and see a error message like this: "A license check failed. License does not match install type.", you are hitting an upgrade issue we are working on. The installer is not replacing one of the files installed by APM 1.0.
If things aren't working correctly and you see the error in your event log:
1. Delete the file C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\apm\Package.dat
2. Rerun the APM installer.
