WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON FOR TOOLSET (updated on 11/23/2016)

Level 12

To receive updates on the Engineers Toolset roadmap, JOIN thwack and BOOKMARK this page.

We are constantly looking for new tools to add to our Engineer's Toolset so don't forget to vote or submit your ideas. Meanwhile, we are working on a few things to improve your experience:

  • Silent Installer Option - You will now have ability to quietly install Toolset for your large scale deployments.

  • Free Tools Integration into Engineer's Toolset - Why should yo have to download each and every free tool manually? Bringing all the free tools into Toolset will save you time and not leave your free tools littered all over the place.

  • Orion + Desktop Toolset Credential Transfer - Why? Because nobody wants to enter credentials multiple times and keep these credentials in sync.

Really like the idea of moving the tools to a web based solution.  Wondering how that is going to change the license model though.

My only wish list items are Juniper support for more tools - like MAC Address Finder, Route Viewer - and a shared host list / snmp credentials database across tools that is easily imported exported with the abiltiy to pull / push / share between Orion as well.

Level 13

will it be integrated into the orion suite, ie a new tab on NPM?

will there be two install options ie standlaone and orion integrated?

Level 13

also tools like

  • ip addres mapped to which swith port
  • ip sla commmand crations and deployment
  • integrate with mapping tools
Level 12

It will be good if each of these tools can be used as a widget. We can attach it to any custom HTML page. Real-time interface monitoring will be particularly useful as a widget, we can easily setup a quick dashboard using that tool.

Level 12

Survey completed.  Very interested in tools moving to web based, specific answers given in survey.

Level 12

Thanks Stuart. Much appreciated.

Level 13

wireshark integration

do Not duplicate WS, interrogate WITH ITS api

THE ABAILITY FOR THE toolset to generate compla query and then get wireshark to execute them

this si most beneificial to new WS users who do not have deep experience in the syntax

as well experience users will gain from the toolset's set abaily to find a problem and then get WS to show the details

Walter, Could we talk to understand the usability aspect of your idea ?

Level 13

pls send me your ph number so that we can talk

Level 9

Switch Port Mapper would be the great!

Level 16

SNMP Sweep.......   use it constantly

Level 10

I'll second SNMP Sweep. Probably my #2 tool after Ping Sweep.

Level 12

I have not had a chance to see the new web integration, but I would like to see that the ability for remote console, remote desktop, telnet, ssh, etc.. type of connectivity be added, so you could go from Monitoring to Actions on that platform.

Best Regards,

Derik

cliton1981‌, please update the WWWO page for the Engineers Toolset.  The info there still shows ET v10.9, but we're already on v11.0.1.  So, I would like to know what's SolarWinds planning for this application.  Thanks!

Level 9

I would like to see SNMP Real-Time Graphs added to Web Toolset or even have it integrated into NPM.

Thanks

SSH tool sounds great. You may want to think about being able to use an OTP Token for login. I know some areas in the government require that two factor authentication.

Level 13

Good point Kurt - considering a recent leaks of personal data from federals because of missing 2 factor auth. this tech will most likely become a must-have soon.

Level 7

Being able to remotely log into a device just by "right-click, SSH/Telnet" would be most appreciated.  Having to RDP into the APE and then SSH/Telnet into that customer's device is quite time intensive.  Several other competitors have managed to incorporate this years ago....you would have thought that Solarwinds would have been the pioneer for a feature such as this.

Kindest regards,

ME

Level 13

Yeah, I'm going to also revive this thread -

For the Switchport mapper tool - can you add POE info? your already on the switch - should be able to show if POE is enabled on a port, how many ways are in use, etc..

or maybe a new tool for that?

Level 13

still would like more updates to this list.. the original post is now over 1 year old. SURELY there are SOME improvements coming?

I would like to see some action also. It seems that these other applications are taking the back burner to everything else, which makes no sense. We pay for these applications and pay for support expecting improvements not for the application to be ignored completely.

Level 14

There have been no new toolset releases since Feb 2017 -- that's almost 1 1/2 years ago...  Why is this?  Is SolarWinds no longer committed to the Engineers Toolset?  Please clarify and/or provide updates with plans for this tool.  Many thanks...

Level 9

Can't wait for this to get implemented.  Having every tool in one spot will be awsome.....

It's been quite a long time that ETS saw some new toys ..

It now lacks functionality, a new interface - after all is'nt it always about UX, pop-ups, alerting

Level 12

Can you elaborate on this? I'm assuming you don't mean like the Toolset Launch Pad....

Level 7

I would  love for Network Sonar to actually support SNMPv3 . This seems like it should be a no brainer.

A little rough that SW feels comfortable charging support for a product that is so infrequently updated.

Level 8

Any update if you are working on the Tool set nothing published since Aug 23, 2015 11:05:08 PM ?

Level 8

I would have to agree with you there on the frequency that the toolset is updated. Most of the apps within the toolset need attention and it appears that Solarwinds Dev team has different marching orders these days. We are looking at droping the support until the apps get updated.

Level 14

The last update from the PM appears to be over 3 years ago -- Nov 2016.  Does anyone know about any development plans (excluding patching) for the Engineers Toolset?

Level 14

Still no reply from PM or the devs about updates for Engineers Toolset....

What is going on with Toolset for Desktop. Nothing has been updated with it. There has been no improvements for even the web version. Is this software a dead software for both desktop and Web? I would like to know so I can end support altogether.
