Server & Application Monitor - What We're Working on Post 5.0

Product Manager

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor 5.0 is just a few weeks old but we're already busily working on some great new features and enhancements to the product, such as...

  • Native support for Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Improvements to Application Template Editing, Including Multi-Edit Functionality
  • Hardware Health Summary Resource
  • Charting Improvements as Demonstrated Here
  • Windows Event Log Monitor Enhancements to Display Event Message Details
  • Additional Hardware Monitoring Support, including IBM MegaRAID Controllers and other Miscellaneous items.
  • Enhancements to the Real-Time Process Explorer, Including Ability to End Task on a Process

PLEASE NOTE:  We are working on these items based on this priority order, but this is NOT a commitment that all of these enhancements will make the next release.  We are working on a number of other smaller features in parallel.   If you have comments or questions on any of these items (e.g. how would it work?) or would like to be included in a preview demo, please let us know!

Windows Event Log Monitor Enhancements to Display Event Message Details

Sweet

Spent several hours the other day writing a PS script to do just that (several hours because I'm not very good at it).  Seems to be working well though I'll make a note to share it with the community here soon.

Did just that a couple of days ago:

I may have to blend my script with yours.....I did mine a little different I'm only looking at the last X minutes (couldn't figure out how to get it to look only where I left off) but I return all events since the last poll that match.  The date on your script shows you posted this the day before I wrote mine.  I had looked like two days prior and found nothing so I wrote my own...should have checked again

Regarding Windows Eventlog Monitor Enhancements to Display Event Message Details:  This is defintiely a MUCH NEEDED feature!   We will wait for it to be released as a feature in APM, and hope the wait is not too long.  Perhaps if enough of us send comments, they might move it up in the priority list?

  • Improvements to Application Template Editing, Including Multi-Edit Functionality

This will be a welcome sight. Templating has been a real pain with things like JMX where JNDI addressing is never the same from one server to the next.

Level 16

I TOTALLY agree...  I have a HUGE need for this now....  but I am terrible at scripting....  so I'm forced to wait

Level 14

Same.  Just having an event up / down is kinda useless to us.  We need the details and we need an alert that contains the details.

Level 7

UNIX: ability to watch a log file for new entries of pattern 'xyz'

soon but later?

Have you used the Log Parser included in SAM 5.0?

Number of Newly Found Strings is in line with some of what we’d be looking for.

Getting the same error as http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/27686

Trying his resolution. We’re also on HP UX.

In that case, this Application Template may better suite your needs

@sdolan feel free to message me if that doesn't work for you.  I have that template I created working on all of our UNIX boxes.
