NPM 12.1 is great. Really appreciate that the updates keep coming.

Level 16

I wish someone would stop pushing new features and start cleaning up old problems...

We call releases that fix bugs and do not introduce new features "Service Releases".  Our last release, NPM 12.0.1, was a Service Release several months in the making.  Also, although NPM 12.1 includes new features, you'll be happy to find out NPM 12.1 includes fixes for 84 bugs.  Hope that helps, but I'll take your comment and feature request as a +1 for wanting a higher ratio of polishing old functionality vs building new.  Thanks!

PARTY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes

Call that "service release"  focus on those "older" problem will be greatly appreciated..

/sja

I'm a bit conflicted on this, I like the introduction of significant new features lately but also would like to see cleanup of a lot of old stuff that needs updating.

Level 12

Nice, but I'm disappointed that all the basic features get passed

We've been asking for YEARS to update Orion to support SITE information. I've got 20-30 managed devices at most locations. Having to repeat the address-city-state-phone-lcon info over and over and over again is really old.

This is no-brainer stuff you would expect in an enterprise NMS. I honestly don't understand the lack of commitment from Solarwinds to do these relatively simple enhancements.

Don

Wait, what?

You can edit the custom properties for multiple nodes at the same time Don331 and you can even do it via API.

Level 12

Sure.. But if you're adding nodes you can't select site information that was already added. It's a pain.

Step 1: add a bunch of nodes preferably via discovery, skip all the custom properties.

Step 2: Mange nodes -> edit all properties at the same time?

Or what do you mean by "site information" that I am missing?  I know it'll populate from SNMP as well.

The feature within Custom Properties to create a pre-defined drop down list will provide the requirement you seek.

As designerfx has indicated there are many ways to populate custom property values; Edit Node, Custom Property Editor, Import, API. I would be interested to know if the method you seek is different.

May be the wrong place to post this, but did the SWQL -> MSSQL queries change quote a lot?

I had a query as follows that grabs a variety of generic node details, we do this on a frequency and cache the data inside our CMDB.
Not having this summary data available to our engineers greatly reduces efficiencies!

On the older NPM this was not the fastest but I recall it taking <10 secs.

However with NPM12.1 it seems to UNION out to a whole load of tables which I don't require (marked with an X)

pastedImage_5.png

My pic seems to get resized quite small the query is:

SELECT NCP.xxx,

    Nodes.LastSync, Nodes.IP, Nodes.Status, Nodes.ObjectSubType,

    Nodes.DNS, Nodes.Caption, Nodes.SysName, Nodes.LastBoot, Nodes.MachineType, Nodes.NodeDescription, Nodes.IOSImage, Nodes.IOSVersion,

    HardwareInfo.Manufacturer, HardwareInfo.Model, HardwareInfo.ServiceTag,

CPULoad as CPU, CPU.Level1Value as CPUwarning, CPU.Level2Value as CPUexception,

PercentMemoryUsed as RAM, RAM.Level1Value as RAMwarning, RAM.Level2Value as RAMexception, Nodes.MemoryUsed, Nodes.TotalMemory,

PercentLoss as PL, PL.Level1Value as PLwarning, PL.Level2Value as PLexception,

AvgResponseTime as RT, RT.Level1Value as RTwarning, RT.Level2Value as RTexception

    FROM Orion.Nodes

    INNER JOIN Orion.NodesCustomProperties NCP ON Nodes.NodeID = NCP.NodeID AND NCP.xxxIS NOT NULL

    LEFT JOIN Orion.Thresholds CPU ON Nodes.NodeID = CPU.InstanceId AND CPU.Name = 'Nodes.Stats.CpuLoad'

    LEFT JOIN Orion.Thresholds RAM ON Nodes.NodeID = RAM.InstanceId AND RAM.Name = 'Nodes.Stats.PercentMemoryUsed'

    LEFT JOIN Orion.Thresholds RT ON Nodes.NodeID = RT.InstanceId AND RT.Name = 'Nodes.Stats.ResponseTime'

    LEFT JOIN Orion.Thresholds PL ON Nodes.NodeID = PL.InstanceId AND PL.Name = 'Nodes.Stats.PercentLoss'

    LEFT JOIN Orion.HardwareHealth.HardwareInfo ON Nodes.NodeId = HardwareInfo.NodeId

    WHERE Nodes.UnManaged = False

Level 13

Hello,

In SWQL can be written like this:

SELECT

    Nodes.LastSync, Nodes.IP, Nodes.Status, Nodes.ObjectSubType,

    Nodes.DNS, Nodes.Caption, Nodes.SysName, Nodes.LastBoot, Nodes.MachineType, Nodes.NodeDescription, Nodes.IOSImage, Nodes.IOSVersion,

    HardwareInfo.Manufacturer, HardwareInfo.Model, HardwareInfo.ServiceTag,

CPULoad as CPU, nodes.CPULoadThreshold.Level1Value as CPUwarning, nodes.CPULoadThreshold.Level2Value as CPUexception,

PercentMemoryUsed as RAM, nodes.PercentMemoryUsedThreshold.Level1Value as RAMwarning, nodes.PercentMemoryUsedThreshold.Level2Value as RAMexception, Nodes.MemoryUsed, Nodes.TotalMemory,

PercentLoss as PL, nodes.PercentLossThreshold.Level1Value as PLwarning, nodes.PercentLossThreshold.Level2Value as PLexception,

AvgResponseTime as RT, nodes.ResponseTimeThreshold.Level1Value as RTwarning, nodes.ResponseTimeThreshold.Level2Value as RTexception

    FROM Orion.Nodes

    INNER JOIN Orion.NodesCustomProperties NCP ON Nodes.NodeID = NCP.NodeID

   LEFT JOIN Orion.HardwareHealth.HardwareInfo ON Nodes.NodeId = HardwareInfo.NodeId

    WHERE Nodes.UnManaged = False

I removed your secret custom property.

Level 10

Awesome, that works a treat.

Runs in ~4secs so I think this is about 2/3x faster than the old NPM.

Level 7

Really appreciate good one

Level 8

Can you share the "topology bugs". very much interested to know.

Level 16

ohh don't let me start on that....

kaushal.maru

One of  the main function of NMS software is

"to help the user   navigate in a  soup of vendors"

please try 2 use topology on 3 devices from 3 vendors or just 3 cisco IOS/XR/NX if you are a Cisco shop...

+

You "must" have that  topology  enable  if you like to get some "colors on maps" ...

+

Not scale

Don't try L3 on Big ISP router with full BGP table ...

Level 8

Hi, any plans to support cisco asa upgrades?

Level 15

This feature is listed on our WWWO post for NCM; https://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-176911#start=25

Have separate views for groups pages been implemented yet? Ie. when I select a Group folder it sends me to a page that I can fully customize. Currently, the issue is that these groups share views. Therefore, when I select a Group that only contains servers, the page does not filter for only servers. So currently there's no use for Group pages.

darcydressell44 you can use either view limitations or account limitations to do this.

I use account limitations and filter to %name% to set up a particular group with a view of whatever they need. It filters everything on the page including alerts/events/node tree.

Level 10

Going on three weeks now of NCM 7.6 communication failures ever since the NPM 12.1 and NCM 7.6 upgrade.

Some days it falls over in 45 minutes.  Other time it will run 12 to 18 hours.  But, eventually it cannot communicate with the "NCM Server" which, of course, it the same darn server.

Level 9

Edward, sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered post-upgrade with NCM and NPM.  Have you submitted a support request? I'd suggest that as a next step; I'm not aware of others having similar issues to what you've described.

have you gone to, say firmware vulnerability settings and hit validate? Does it succeed? If not, you might have a permissions issue/restriction.
