Hi,

would be good to know when you plan to release regular Orion Platform 2020.2?

We can't provide an exact date for GA yet in part because the Release Candidate process may provide results that necessitate a longer cycle. That being said, if you look at our recent release history you can see that the availability of RC usually means GA is relatively close.

Great new features!

Getting this error when running the Config Wizard post upgrade.

Database configuration failed:
• Error while executing script- Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'ThresholdNameId', table 'swdb.dbo.Thresholds'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
The statement has been terminated.

Have contacted support but posting it here just in case others have seen and resolved this issue.

@m10  - can you share the support case number - this may be related to a known issue and has been resolved.

Level 8

No worries - case number is 00535719

The provided fix resolved the issue.

Level 10

Ran a network discovery and no interfaces were found on 40-some Windows servers polled via WMI.

Even while manually listing resources, no interfaces are detected.

What's up with that? 😮

Level 11

Trying to upgrade to the RC and get the following error during the configuration wizard.

Error while executing script- The operation cannot be performed on database "TSNMS_TSNCC" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group. Some operations are not allowed on a database that is participating in a database mirroring session or in an availability group.
ALTER DATABASE statement failed.
Caution: Changing any part of an object name could break scripts and stored procedures.

Do i have to break the availability group prior to the upgrade and re-instate it once its complete?

@jack.vaughan - What modules are you installing?  That would be expected if you are for instance installing a stand alone NPM, as the Network Performance Monitor is not collecting interface info via WMI. If the Server and Application Monitor (SAM) is being installed, you should absolutely be detecting interfaces via WMI.

@dunky2k You should not by any means be required to break the SQL AG in order to proceed with the upgrade.  I would recommend creating a support case to have them take a look. Please let them know you are working to install the RC.

Level 11

@jblankjblankThanks for the reply, i checked through the configuration wizard logs and it appears that i mistakenly used the wrong credentials for the database login, tech me to look at the screen next time.

Re-ran the config wizard again using the correct credentials and completed successfully with no other issues.

Level 9

@dunky2k How long was the upgrade process for your primary poller once you got everything sorted out?

Level 11

@bouchmThe whole upgrade process from the installer to the wizard on the main poller took around 35 mins, however this was for an 'offline' upgrade and not using the centralized update option. Our APE and HA servers took around 25 mins each.

Level 9

Upgrading to 2019.4 was the first upgrade I have done where I did not have any issues.  I hope the trend continues!  Thanks SolarWinds

Level 12

Might be interesting to see if any of the posted enhancement requests made it in in this cycle. It would show you are listening.:)

Level 9

I have a test server that is not production. I was able to upgrade to 2020.2 and the upgrade went smooth. It is simply an fully licensed NPM "server" really a laptop running server 2016 with SQL 2016 on the same server but I only have about 200 nodes on it. The upgrade went fine (no errors)  but I can not get modern dashboards to work. I can create one, but I do not have the option to add a widget at all. The button to drag is not there. So just a blank dashboard with no way to add anything.

Also, after two day for some reason FireFox lost the mega menu ( i have re-run the wizard and it completes fine but does not fix the mega menu). I do have IE on it and it works fine minus it is version 11 and I cant try modern dashboards in that. I found in the admin guide you must have above version 11. Is there a version of FF or Chrome I must be above as well and do I truly have to have a separate SQL server for this scenario. My production have all the requirements but I am holding off due to the large size of our production network.

Level 9

Nevermind. Upgraded to the latest Chrome and I am off an running!

Level 9

I have been running 2020.2 RC2 with IPAM,SRM,SCM,NCM,NTA,VMAN.

Noticed RC3 is available.

What has been updated?

Level 9

My "upgrade" to 2019.4, then 2020 RC2 has been broken for over 2 weeks now.  I have logged multiple support cases, and they cant seem to get much fixed.

Anyone know of a good way to get support cases escalated to developers or real engineers?  Every time I call they want to give me a new tech to work on the problem, and they want to start at the beginning again.

Thanks,

Andy

@andy.howard - can you share those support case numbers please?

Thanks @andy.howard - I have taken a look at the cases and engaged Support Management to push the two open cases in the right direction.

Level 14

Really looking forward to the GA. the RC is amazing.

Level 9

@jblankjblank Any idea who I can call to get a support case escalated and looked at?  When I call the support number I always get a tech who wants to start troubleshooting from the very beginning again.

Going on 3 weeks with a broken Solarwinds environment, and I cant get support to find anyone who can fix it.  Today they told me to install the GA 2020.2 release, so I did.  No change...still broken.  I am quickly loosing hope of this ever being fixed and having a working system again.

@andy.howard same two cases?

Level 9

@jblankjblank Yes, same two cases..... On the phone again holding for support to see if I can get someone.

@andy.howard - Let me see what I can do.

Level 9

@jblankjblank Thanks for the help!!  Not sure if you had anything to do with it, but I got an email from a support manager while on the phone with one of the techs.  They didn't have a fix, but he did say that DEV wanted me to "NTA virtual interface from NPM".  I could not find the one they referenced, but I found three other Virtual interfaces created a long time ago for one of our Meraki Security appliances, and as soon as I deleted those virtual interfaces the Flows started processing again.

The System is usable again!  Thanks for your help!

@andy.howard Just gave it a little nudge - glad you are back to a good place!
