Yes, resources must inherit from SolarWinds.Orion.Web.UI.BaseResourceControl.

A couple of points to make this less scary:

1. There's only one required method: just provide an implementation for DefaultTitle.
2. Across the various products in the Orion family, we have literally hundreds of subclasses of this base class. That alone would make us very conservative about changing the behavior of BaseResourceControl.
3. The Orion modules  ship on different schedules and need to support running with older and newer versions of the Orion platform. Any change we make to this class must take this into account.
