Customer Facing System Status Page

Hello,


I work in the IT Customer Service department of a University. We are developing a customer facing system status page and would like to know if Orion or the Orion SDK

provides RSS or XML/APIs to report on system status. In particular, we would like to create a group of systems that we specifically want to include in a live report, containing the name of the system, the status (up/down or green/yellow/red) and a status description.


Any input anyone has on this would be much appreciated.

    Orion SDK Information

    You can query for status of a particular set of nodes for sure. There are examples of API calls in various languages (VBscript, PowerShell, etc) once you install the SDK

    So this status page will require no authentication and be for our internal customers as well as accessible from the internet. Would you recommend the SDK and the method of querying a specific set of nodes for this?

  • If you created a view with just 1 custom table resource, then created a new menu bar with this view in it, and assign it this directlink account - it should work here. I don't think you need an SDK effort for this. If there are any challenges with this approach for external access, you can purchase an additional web server and assign it a public IP to use the same view I describe above. You can click on the custom table resource title to get the URL just for that resource. Views, Menu bars, Accounts are all created from the Settings page.
