API Help

My boss wants me to use an API to pull cambium radio data out of CnMaestro.  I'm new to the IT world so API is a new concept for me.  I have found a few pages on THWACK regarding API but they all seem to be structured under the assumption that you already know how the system works.  Is there any place I can go to learn about using API?  specifically where I enter API commands and how I reference an outside server?

The introduction that you linked to is a great place to start for learning about interacting with the SolarWinds Orion SDK.  There is more information here:

https://github.com/solarwinds/OrionSDK

https://github.com/solarwinds/OrionSDK/wiki

However, it seems like you may also be interested in learning about the CnMaestro API.  For information about the CnMaestro API, it looks like there are some docs here:

http://community.cambiumnetworks.com/t5/cnMaestro/RESTful-API-configuration-and-support-on-cnMaestro...

Are you trying to integrate a particular SolarWinds product with CnMaestro?  Can you provide some additional details about what you would like to do with the cambium radio data you plan to retrieve from CnMaestro?

Alexander, do you have SAM? if so, I'd like to have a user session with you to see if improvements in API monitoring would be useful for your use case.

serena,

We use NPM and NCM.  We mare monitoring radios so we don't have much server monitoring

I see. If you're still intersted in sharing the json output from the api that you're polling or api documentation that your'e referencing, that would be helpful for us to build better support.

Dan,

thanks for your help.  Like I said I'm new at this.  I think my boss wants me to set up a pipeline between CnMaestro and Solarwinds, so that CnMaestro polls and collects data for all cambium radios in our environment and then send all that data to Solarwinds.  He thinks it will be faster than SNMP, but I'll have to figure everything out first.

Does that make sense?

That makes sense.  So are you trying to originate a push of data from CnMaestro, then?  Or are you thinking about some independent scheduled job that would pull data from CnMaestro and send it to SolarWinds?

I think I’m going more for a push from CnMaestro, but if I need to do a pull from Solarwinds that would work as well

Here's a great 3-part tutorial for introduction to SolarWinds Orion API & SDK. It's probably a few years old, so I can't vouch for it being fully up to date. It's probably for the most part still very relevant, and I recall this being a really good intro to get started.

Part 1: http://www.networkmanagementsoftware.com/solarwinds-orion-api-sdk-getting-started-part-1/

Part 2: http://www.networkmanagementsoftware.com/solarwinds-orion-api-sdk-using-swql-rest-and-curl-part-2/
