Alerting on multicast source endpoints

Alerting on multicast source endpoints

SolarWinds NPM and NTA modules in combination facilitates in monitoring multicast traffic.

We can check the number of multicast streams, traffic for each multicast stream, which are its source nodes and interfaces.

It even shows number of source endpoints listed as the transmitters for a particular multicast stream.

With NPM we can create alert based on multicast group status and using NTA we can create alert if multicast traffic for a particular group exceeds limit or stops completely receiving at the source interface or node.

Both alert creating mechanism are very useful and we have been using them for alerting.

Our requirement is to create an alert if one of the transmitters for a multicast stream stops sending packets. As NTA  clearly identifies all the transmitting endpoints for stream it should also allows us to create a alert on these transmitting endpoints.

Status changed to: Implemented

Have a look at: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/t5/NTA-Documents/Introducing-the-NTA-2020-2-Release-Candidate-IPAM-IP-...

We've implemented NTA alerts for endpoints and IP groups; I think this will work for you with multicast ranges and endpoints.
