I've just received an NTA update notification at our Solarwinds Web, which is the NTA 3.10 version. We want to validate this update, and find out whether it is worth installing it and if there's no problem doing this procedure. Currently, we have NTA version 3.9.0. Do we have to plan a manteinance window to do this update? How long does it take?
Thanks. I would really appreciate your help.
Just in case we have some trouble, what rollback plan could we consider? It's important for us to continue monitoring as quickly as possible, but, assuming something goes wrong for any reason when updating, how can we prevent and/or restore the server fast and easily?
You would need to back up your DB first and foremost. If you had to restore, you would need to restore the DB as well as install the versions of Orion SW installed when you took the backup. I havent seen many issues at all when upgrading NTA so I would think the risk is low.
Its a fairly similar process to this upgrade as with previous versions. The Orion services will be stopped during the process. The amount of time is fully dependent on the size of the netflow tables in your database.
I would say it is worth it for the install just for the new graphs alone.
