Hi Guys,
I been using Solarwinds for a great deal of time now and I find it always frustrating when adding nodes to NPM using the current management
If you are familiar with NPM and how you add nodes you might be able to understand some of my frustrations....
- Always scrolling down to complete the various sections
- Always having the screen refresh and jump to the bottom when selecting "Custom Properties" then having to scroll back up.
- NCM Node Group - doesn't display as a drop-down to group you configs together
4. ASA / F5 credentials not part of the "connection profile" sets like when used to login to devices via SSH
To make the management screen more of an up to date view, I would change it to fit one screen and have multiple tabs;
Tab 1 - The first screen will be as normal (Nodename / IP Address and Polling type
Tab 2 - Polling/Dependencies/Alerts (PDA for short) - To include
- Polling
- UDT Node Properties
- VMware Polling Settings
- Alert Thresholds
- Multicast Polling
- Hardware Health Polling
- Routing Polling
Tab 3 - Custom Properties
Tab 4 - Credential - Here i would include the existing;
- UCS Credentials
- F5 Credentials
- Cisco ASA Credentials
- and others as you get my point
Tab 5 - NCM - Existing NCM Properties
Tab 6 - Groups / Permissions - A new tab or feature to allow this node to be added directly to a group or groups with view permissions?
Tab 7 - Create your Own - This tab could a collection of the favorites you check? There for one screen shows exactly what you use in your environment and need to adjust on add the Node
Design tab order;
TAB1 | TAB2 | TAB3 | TAB4 | TAB5 | TAB6 | TAB7
Naming could be;
ADD | PDA | CUSTOM | CREDENTIALS | NCM | PERMISSIONS | + FAV |
I think it's about time I wrote this up as been thinking about it for a long while.
Any ideas to add would be welcome.
Thanks
