Service for monitoring Orion itself

There should be a Process or Service that runs independently from Orion. The sole purpose of this Service should be checking if the Orion Services are running. Vice versa should Orion itself monitor this Service.

The Service could run on a separate Machine, maybe even on a Desktop or Workstation. Email-Alert or SMS-Alert should be available for this case.

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

    In addition, there should be a similar process to do simple checks on the health of the database.  If I'm on a 5 minute polling interval and don't have any data for the past 18 hours, there is something wrong.

    We have implemented a check along these lines in APM, but it suffers from the same problem Mike states in that, if the server that instance of Orion is on goes down, we lose our ability to monitor our instance.
