No link utilization on Layer 3 connections in Network Atlas

Dear:

Regarding the Solarwinds NPM support "Case # - 00144084 No link utilization on connections in Network Atlas", we have the Huawei devices in Layer 3 and it does not show Link Utilization between two nodes of the Router type.

(They are in Layer 3) it is important to be able to see the Link Utilization in the maps because we have hundreds of critical links presented on maps.

Link Utilization in Switchs Layer 2 work fine, and us need same function to Routers en Layer 3.

In my attached example, the map was made in Atlas and links in Connect Now. Black lines are connections between routers, color lines indicate utilization between switch and router.

Regards.

  • I would be curious as to what the NPM Topology resource represents as a part of these connections.  It may identify a connection between elements but doesn't have enough information to specify an interface in this case.  I would recommend taking a look at the latest release of Orion Maps which will let you define those types of connections directly from the map.  Then allow you to visualize them similar to a Layer 2 link.

  • Hi Jose,

I'm curious as to why this is a feature request instead of a bug type of request? I could be wrong, but I believe the OIDs for interface statistics are the same regardless if it's layer 2 or layer 3. What info did tech support provide that led to a feature request?

Either way, I up-voted this as we have the same issue.

    Thanks,

    Romeo

  • I agree.  We moved our national long haul connections from Layer 2 to Layer 3 and lost functionality for our NOC.  We use Layer 3 on our WAN connections where it is important to be able to have our NOC have visual cues as to health of our networks.

Please add this feature in for Layer 3 connections.
