CHANGE NODE STATUS WITH ALERTS

This was requested in March 2011, but I see no activity. I am unable to leave a comment in the previous thread here: Change Node Status with Alerts. Or here: Change Node Status with Alerts

I have seen it mentioned by others and also agree that it would be nice to see a node status change when there are alerts associated with that node or objects associated with the node (such as interfaces, volumes, applications, etc.).

A relatively simple way to do this would be as follows...

Add a new Advanced Alert Action called "Node Status Change"
Add a new Node Status, some new color or icon to indicate the node is in Alert status
Make this new Node Status function just like other Node status
1. Roll-up functionality on maps and other views, etc

This would allow the flexibility to choose which alerts change the status of a node. Since Advanced Alerts are stateful the Node Status Change associated with the alert would go away when the Advanced Alert was rearmed.

To make this real fancy, several different new Node Status could be added and when you selected the Node Status Change Alert option you could choose which Node Status you wanted to use.

Is there any update on this request? I can't change the nodes status when a storage volume is full. That's a pretty huge oversight considering it can based on CPU, mem, etc but not storage.

I know this is an old thread. This as been implemented with Nodes, Interfaces and Volumes but apparently UNDP cant be used to change node status...SIGH...Very Frustrating

Orion seems not to work like that. But with a little script, I was able to achieve a similar behavior.

I think volume at this time does not change the node status. I am testing this on some of my systems as well, and can not get a change in Node Status, due to Critical Volume status.

I'm trying to mark a node as 'Warning' if a volume is over 90%. The alert is shown but the node status is not influenced by the alert.

It appears that NPM 12.1 has implementing Warning as an option, but I am still playing with making this work.
Was anyone able to get a node to change status based on a polled value or alert? If you have some insight it would be helpful.

I too cannot understand why the status cannot be amber if there is a non-critical issue.
E.g. if a partition is getting full, the server is not down but it would be good to see the status is not "OK".
If this is implemented I would upgrade straight away.

Do we need to raise another request for the status implementation to be expanded or can this be followed up?
This would assist us in monitoring our VMs, whereby we would like for the cpu component of a node (VM) to change to a warning/critical status, which in turn would feed up to the group and the group would then change on the map diagram.
If any one has an alerternative method of getting the group status to change as a result of a component of a node in the group I would be greatful to hear it!
