Ability to add UnDP into Orion Maps

Ability to add UnDP into Orion Maps

Hi Team,

We really need the ability to add values from UnDP. For example, we are monitoring Active/Passive values from Palo Alto and in Network Atlas, we have HA status as well as numer of connections (all are done via custom SNMP OID monitoring).

We cannot migrate to Orion Maps without this functionality. Please add it in the next release. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Marcin.

@kpmarcin can you message me with details of how this is currently achieved, or point me at a THWACK post please?

This is absolutely something we need and as we are still on 2019.4....

Yes.  We really need this.  I have migrated all my Atlas maps to the new Orion Maps except for those using UnDP....

Level 8

Yes! This would be a huge boon to my deployment as well.

Question to @kpmarcin , @stuartd , @acecan009 , @jhuffman7 - are you needing to be able to add the UnDP itself to the map, or if the value from the custom poller was a property of the node or interface that could be added to the map?

@jblankjblank Both preferably. I have clients using Network Atlas to provide effectively a "UnDP" dashboard across particular devices. So the "traffic light" status of the custom poller is important to see there is a problem, and then they can also see the actual custom poller value next to or on it.

The node status doesn't work because there could be 5 different custom pollers assigned to the node. If we show the node status is critical, you'd have to try and figure out which custom poller value is causing the problem. If you show the custom poller status, you can easily show which one is causing the problem (and the current value).

@jblankjblank as I didn't even know this was possible I'm going to have to pass on answering this one.

@jblankjblank, shuth has summed it up pretty well. The ability to see the individual custom poller status is much more useful.

Our company has a serious lack of Cisco devices, so I find myself spending a lot of time making UnDPs to monitor our Brocade, Fortinet, and Tripp-Lite products. The ability to use their value in the new maps would make at-a-glance monitoring that much better.

I currently use groups as a workaround for UnDP status monitoring. You can add custom pollers to groups, and place those groups in Orion Maps.

@stuartd You can follow the steps below. You can also use variables like in the screenshot in the original post to show the actual values.

Maybe a dull question, but I've now found out how to add these to a map thanks to the wonders of my pal Mr Google.

However, when I subsequently add a UnDP to a map, does it alert like a node, or do we now need to build a specific alert for the UnDPs? If yes, can someone talk me through the logic in use or a screenshot of the "trigger condition" you are using?

@shuth @jhuffman7 @acecan009 @kpmarcin  ???

Thanks @shuth your response didn't show up until after I'd deleted and re-phrased my query, as that was the page I found 🙂 If you have any advice about alerting on these I'd love for you to also share that? A PM is fine as well, thanks.
