migrating to SNMPv3 - testing breaks v2c

I am testing migrating from SNMPv2c to SNMPv3. When I configure the Cisco device with the v3 credentials (not having changed the Orion node settings yet), the v2c quits working. try to validate v2c and it tells me "Unable to validate with supplied credentials" Anyone run into this or know of a fix...This will make widespread deployment a nightmare...
