I'm just trying to figure out what kind of alerts people are setting up with their NPM to see if I can stream line and make everything useful? what thresholds do you find to be sufficient?
I'm just asking this because most of the alerts I'm using are the canned alerts slightly modified. though I don't know if they're a good judge. Some nights I'll get 1000 emails telling me everything has gone down and come back up because of a few ping time outs over the VLANs we have set up to remote sites, which makes it hard for you to go through and see what is legitimate issues or not. most of our equipment is Cisco except for a few pieces we inherited when we take over IT for another client. I just get told to set up what ever I think is best but I really don't know what would be best. I kind of just read the alert descriptions and go "That sounds good".
