WMI vs SNMP

Jump to solution

Hey Guys,

My company is testing out the new versions of SolarWinds. In the current Solarwinds that we are using we notice that WMI uses a lot more resources then SNMP. I was wondering if there was a resource comparison of the two protocols in the latest Solarwinds version 6.2.3?

Thanks

One other thing to consider, is that with WMI you will not get server interfaces listed. It'll show all the other stuff, but when you list resources, it will not show the interfaces.

SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Monitoring network interfaces on a Windows server which is a WMI manage...

EDIT: I note you mentioned your version of SAM. If you're running NPM and SAM you can monitor interfaces via WMI.

Thanks for the info that is what I needed. I was hoping for a more recent breakdown but like you said most of what is in the doc still rings true.

Thanks
