Trap destination?

Hi,

I'm setting up some devices to trap into our Solarwinds server. My first thought was that the destination IP address of the traps should be the Solarwinds server itself, but then, out of curiosity, I tried the VIP of an active/standby polling engine pair and this appears to work.

I haven't been able to find much info on this, so was wondering if there are some design best practices here? Are there any advantages / disadvantages to involving the polling engines in the trap collection strategy? Or is it the case that NPM pushes node credentials down to the selected polling engine such that traps MUST be sent to the polling engine?

Thanks,

Andy.
