Syslog Alert Variables Assistance

I am trying to send a syslog alert email message that will include the ${Caption} or ${NodeName} from the SolarWinds database, but it does ever seem to perform the lookup. I can see the expected results in the Syslog viewer, so the main question is this even possible to do?

Example of the Subject for Alert Email

"Link up on ${Caption}" or "Link up on ${Caption}"
