Report for interface discards

Need a report for interface discards with the following details:

  1. Node name, IP address , interface, location.
  2. Count of packet discarded with exact time interval details.
  3. Type (TCP/UDP) of discarded packets.
  4. Source of discarded packets.
  • You will find with SolarWinds. The data that is being polled by default for Error's and Discard's are the following OID's:

    Errors and DiscardsifInDiscards1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.13
    Errors and DiscardsifInErrors1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.14
    Errors and DiscardsifOutDiscards1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.19
    Errors and DiscardsifOutErrors1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.20

    1 and 2 are possible,

While 3 - 4, the information you require such as 'type of packet' just isn't available by default, it also comes down to vendor not actually having such OID's for SolarWinds to poll, if on the other hand have ncm, you could create an alert that will trigger on x discards/errors that will run a series of 'show commands' and based on the out put create a report, but to my knowledge this just isnt possible OutOfBox.

Here is an example of a previous question, although old still relevant

    daily report for discards

  • Hi Jayshree - I'm afraid that interface discards is just a counter (MIB-II IfInDiscards, IfOutDiscards) so doesn't have the detail you're after, just the number of discards received or sent on the interface in question.

  • The only way to collect those kinds of source/destination/protocol metrics on a per packet basis would be doing wire monitoring with a network tap tool like Netscout or similar products.
