Question regarding ping response and warning/down status.

I have pings going out to provider gateways every 10 seconds so that I will know as soon as possible if there is an issue.  I always get a warning alert first, and then if the gateway is well and truly down, I will get a down alert.

How does Orion do this?  I understand that when a ping fails, Orion considers the device in warning and starts pinging that device at a faster interval - correct?  How long will the device have to fail to respond before it changes status to down using my scenario of 10 second polls.

TIA
