I pulled the following information from the NPM Administration guide online section regarding configuring alerts:

Note: The has changed condition is only valid for the Last Boot, IOS Version, and IOS Image Family device characteristics.

Is it a feature request to be able to alert off of changes to other values in NPM? This would be very helpful and I'm wonding why only those fields were selected. Machinetype is a good example of an alert that we would want to alert on when it changed.

Can someone from SolarWinds respond?

Easy one: when the machine is retired/upgraded/changed and the IP is re-used immediately. A server becomes a switch; a windows machine becomes a linux box; a 2800 becomes a 6509, etc.

This is a known feature request that we have on the list. You mention machinetype, but would you perhaps be able to suggest a couple more potential use cases?
