Hi All,

We just purchased Solarwinds. I have it installed and just beginning to familiarise myself with it. One annoying this is that I set up a discovery of our Head Office as a test, and all the laptops and pcs came back as "Unknown" node. I want to be able to create a new group called "Windows Laptop" or whatever and move those nodes manually into these custom groups. I can't seem to do that. Can anyone help?

Hi,
Is SNMP configured on these laptops? if not, this could explained why they are shown as Unknown.
If configuring SNMP is not an option, you could create a Custom Property and update it for all your nodes.
You can do this easily using the Custom Property Editor and Database Manager.
Backup your database before to change anything. You cannot change the Vendor/Machine Type fields directly or they will be overwritten by the Polling Engine, hence the need to create custom properties.

Once done this, you can configure the resources in the web console to use your custom properties to sort/group nodes.
